First Things First: What are Stretch Marks & Cellulite?
Stretch marks are long, narrow stripes or lines that can develop in the skin. They commonly occur when the skin has been suddenly stretched.
First and foremost, stretch marks are SUPER common! Almost everyone has them and they really aren’t anything to be ashamed of.
Anyone can develop stretch marks. The cause can vary, but some of the most common reasons is intense growth, pregnancy, weight gain or loss, and puberty. It happens when the skin can’t resume its normal form.
Stretch marks are scars, and when the skin is rapidly stretched or shrunk, it causes the collagen and elastic element to rupture. The skin will heal itself, but the result is stretch marks.
Cellulite is a totally harmless skin condition that can cause lumpy, dimpled flesh. It most commonly appears in the thighs, hips, butt, or abdomen.
Around 80-90% of woman will experience cellulite, so you’re not alone! Even fit people can have cellulite.
Research on what causes cellulite is still developing, but it’s believed that it can be caused by hormones, weight and muscle tone, and even genetics is believed to play a role.
Cellulite is usually your fat cells protruding into your top layer of skin. Women’s fat cells and connective tissues are arranged vertically, making them more sustainable to getting it.
So, how do I get rid of them?
Research is still emerging on what the best treatment for stretch marks and cellulite is, but here are a few things that people have had success with!
Keeping your skin hydrated is so important for not only preventing stretch marks and cellulite, but just in general!
A great way to keep yourself hydrated would be to use our Coconut Milk Face & Body Scrub. This will help keep your skin hydrated and exfoliated, both great to reduce the appearance of stretch marks!
Keeping your skin hydrated also helps reduce redness and irritation, which helps minimize the appearance of pesky imperfections.
Like hydration, exfoliation is another must have to help your skin. Exfoliating can buff away old and worn-out skin cells so your body can focus on rebuilding new ones.
Exfoliation is key when trying to reduce the appearance of stretch marks as it can help them look less visible.
This is one of the newest remedies found to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite. Not only is it a great exfoliate because of the texture, but the caffeine can also help kick start your blood flow and increase circulation.
Caffeine helps provide elasticity and firmness to the skin, which can help prevent the appearance of new lines. It’s also a natural exfoliate as we talked about above! On top of all that goodness, it also contains antioxidant components. This can help prevent premature skin aging.
One of the most important things about coffee is the caffeine! This helps activate the blood circulation which will help energize the skin and repair the skin cells faster.
Time to Start Scrubbing!
One of the most important things to keep in mind is results aren’t instant! It’s recommended to use this scrub 3-4 times a week. After about 2 weeks of continuous use, you should start seeing results. Everyone’s skin is different, so don’t worry if yours takes a little longer! Be patient with yourself.
It’s best to do this in the shower so you don’t have to clean up any loose scrub! Make sure you skins is damp before applying.
Apply the Coffee Scrub in circular motions to the affected area. Let it sit for a few minutes to really make sure your skin can reap the benefits of the caffeine.
Rinse, baby! Rinse the scrub off completely before leaving the shower. I like to do my scrub last so I can hydrate right after.
Which brings us to step 4: Hydrate! Once you’re clean, moisturize your skin with your favorite lotion. As we talked about earlier, keeping your skin hydrated will help keep it happy and prevent aging and help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite. Alternate between our Coconut Scrub and Coffee Scrub for the best results!
